Przetycz
Przetycz is a forestry village in the country north east of Warsaw, with open pine trees all around and is prospering from the development of new second homes.
The house is built entirely of wood and is usable from late April to the end of October. After that it gets too cold.
Downstairs there is a large open plan living area with a glass fronted wood burning stove (with flues to heat upstairs) in the centre of the house. It has a radio, CD player, DVD player (in TV but no reception), and a telephone (mobile reception is not good).
The kitchen includes a cooker with gas hob and electric oven, dishwasher, fridge freezer etc
There is also a bath and WC downstairs with an immersion heater, and a washing machine.
Upstairs consists of 3 double bedrooms (2 with double beds, 1 with two single beds), 2 with balconies. Linen is provided, but you are asked to bring towels. There is another WC and a shower.
Outside there is a spacious, south facing veranda for eating, sitting, or playing and a large natural garden of open pine covered land. This has swings and hammocks for all ages and a sandpit.
2 (adult) bikes are available for exploring the woods and lanes.
Shopping
Within few hundred metres you can get all daily food needs: local shops have an increasingly wide range of products.
The nearest small town is Dlugosiodlo (pronounced Dwoogoeshodwo) is about 10 mins or less in the car or a 45 minute walk through the woods. It has all the food and drink that you need as well as clothing, toys, household needs etc and an excellent open air market for fruit and veg. There is also a pleasant local bar which provides basic food.
There is even a Carrefour and IKEA on the road out from Warsaw.

A visit to Przetycz can be easily combined with a few days in Krakow. A direct train from Warsaw to Krakow takes about 3 hours.
My neighbours who helped build the house will help with any problems to do with the house or shopping. If they are not in their house, they can always be phoned and speak perfect English.

From £250 per week. All further information: fanny.mitchell@gmail.com
If you have not been to Poland before:
Transport from GB
From the UK there are lots of flights to Warsaw including cheap airlines. (By train it takes approx 25 hours). It is recommended that you hire a car from the airport to make the most of sight seeing etc. The drive takes approx one and a half hours from the airport. You can also get a bus into Warsaw, and then take a slow local train (from Warszawa Wileńska) or bus onto Przetycz.
Journey information to travel by train between Warsaw and Przetycz can be found on the Telekomunikacja Kolejowa website.
Weather
The BBC Weather site provides climate information for Warsaw, which illustrates conditions over much of Poland, as well as a five-day forecast for Warsaw.
Money and Internet
Poland still uses the zloty (approx 5 zl = £1.00), but they should be going over to the euro in the next few years. It is still a cash economy and only cash is accepted in shops in small towns etc. However cards are becoming much more widely used, and things, especially food and drink, are still much cheaper than in Britain. Eg Beer about 50p big can, milk 40p per litre, bread 25p, meat (lot of pork and excellent sausages of all sorts) and fruit and veg (lots of strawberries, raspberries s etc) are all amazingly cheap.
A hole-in-the-wall cash machine has just opened in Dlugosiodlo which will make local shopping much easier.
The Post Office website displays its current exchange rate.
A very cheap internet cafe has just opened in Dlugosiodlo in the health clinic; there is very poor internet communication from Przetycz.
Language
More and more English is being spoken (no surprise seeing how many of them have spent time here). Shopping should not be a problem with a bit of sign language, and there is a lot of good will around.
