Anthony’s bike
Steel touring bikes, like the galaxy, use a light(ish), strong, shock absorbing frame for a stable and comfortable ride. For me, the comfort bit seems particularly important, and the choice of touring bike allows me to pursue my favoured pass time of watching the world go by. Slowly.
My SuperGalaxy features a Reynolds 531 touring frame with:
- Handbuilt wheels
(Hope hubs, Mavic rims, 28 mm tyres) - Shimano Deore XT/LX derailleurs and transmission
- 26/36/48 Specialite Chinook chainrings
- A Brooks B17 leather saddle
(still being broken in!!)
Steve’s Bike
I have upgraded from the heavy mountain bike used for the C2C to a Trek 1.2 Pilot road bike (This should mean that I can give Ant a run for his money). This has a compact frame design which gives a more upright and hopefully more comfortable riding position over long distances.
The bike has an aluminium frame with carbon forks that I have been assured will make the ride more forgiving.
The bike has the standard manufacturer’s spec; I have added SKS mudguards and a Blackburn Rack.
