Day 12 - Tuesday 23rd May - The journey to…

Written by Anthony

This morning, I woke up actually looking forward to all of the day's cycling - five miles to the Dunoon ferry, no towns to negotiate, easy map reading and absolutely stunning scenery. For the first time, I felt certain that I could complete this ride.

After the ferry ride to Dunoon, we headed north through what I think may have been the Trossacks, though it's difficult to know because I've cut the information off my road map in trying to save weight.

20 stunning miles later, we were on the south coast of Loch Fyne, from where we could see our destination of Inveraray, just a couple of miles away across the loch.

10 miles later, I knew for sure that I'll never intentionally cycle in the fjords, and we still hadn't reached the end of the loch.

A few miles later, we rounded the end of the loch, and were staggered by the headwind which blew us straight into the carpark of the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar.

Before eating, we diligently checked the weather forecast, which promised only showers.

After we had eaten (great fish), we walked out into a passing shower, which those down south might have called a torrential winter downpour. Scotland has thrown every kind of weather at us today!

10 miles later, we crawled into Inveraray in full expedition gear, water running down our waterproofs and into our shoes.

Tonight we go looking for more seafood...
